The First Light at Dawn
Anishinaabe strategist, writer, and philanthropic leader honoring the 'first light.' Cultivating new systems for collective liberation and Indigenous sovereignty. For more than two decades, my work has moved across philanthropy, Tribal sovereignty, environmental protection, and civic power. I help funding move with the responsibility it carries.
How I see the work
The Language of Light
Waaseyaaban means the first light at dawn. Dawn has always felt less like a symbol than a way of working. It is the time when the outlines begin to emerge, before certainty arrives. Much of my thinking starts with the properties of light.
Ancestral Foresight
Our Indigenous Peoples think seven generations ahead. I find myself wondering what changes when we measure success in relationships instead of reporting periods. Time shapes every decision we make, even when we never name it.
Digital Beadwork
I spend time thinking about databases, taxonomies, and information systems. They look technical on the surface, but every system reflects a worldview. Every category tells us what belongs, what does not, and who gets to decide.
